Mōrena whānau, I hope you had a great long weekend! I enjoyed spending time with my family, going for walks, eating lots of yummy ANZAC cookies and finding some more exciting ideas for work I can give you in our treehouse.
Today we have Main lesson (yes main lesson!), spelling, daily math, reading, orchestra, writing and handwork. You may have noticed that there is a new eurythmy recording from Simone, if you haven't already, check it out "Eurythmy with Simone #3". There's also a new message from Ash, have a look at "Sport from Ash #2" for some great ideas of how to keep active and practice for the sports you have chosen.
Main lesson:
We are going to be doing a form drawing Main lesson for the next 3 weeks. Each day you will get a new form to create. Remember to take time in your forms, be careful and slow, focus on accuracy and fluidity of your lines. Draw lightly with pencil first, then add colour. All of our forms have shapes in them that we learned in our last Main lesson, I'm looking for carefully created freehand shapes.
Start with a circle. Next mark the mid points at the top, bottom and sides. Then draw a square from the dots you've (lightly) marked. Once you have your square, create lines through the diagonals from the corners.
Now that your form is drawn, we need to colour it in, you'll need your coloured pencils. Start at the corners, colouring in straight lines all in the same direction, pushing harder with your pencil, then softer as you grow closer to the center. You will need five different colours.
Spelling:
Below are your new words for this week, write them and display them somewhere around the house. Because it is a short week lets find words within them too, if you have the game scrabble, you can use the tiles to physically move around the letters.

Daily math:
Did you make some delicious cookies last week?
Well done to Hans, Ari, Ciaran, Ocean, Lily, Dylan, Briar, Blake and Dylan.
Today's math:
From now on each day you will have 5 questions. a 3 digit addition, 4 digit subtraction (no regrouping), 3 digit subtraction (regrouping), 3 x 2 digit multiplication and a multiplication word problem.
With all problems, please show your working.
1. addition
2. Subtraction
3. Subtraction with regrouping (borrowing)
4. Multiplication
6. Multiplication word problem:
Send me all your answers for a prize! Remember, I am by my laptop to answer math questions 8:40- 10:25. After that I am a mix of working and parenting so less free to help, but will answer emails when I can.
Reading:
If you have books left, make sure you are reading, if you haven't what other ideas do you have for reading? Let me know, you might have an idea that could help the rest of your book-missing classmates.
Orchestra:
Practice your instrument, maybe you could play at your gate and entertain any passers by on their walks.
Writing:
Pick one of the following sentence starters to write a story about...
-At the beach, you find a special shell and when you place it in your palm it...
-I was in a museum with my parents when I came across a magic button...
-You get home from the zoo and find a baby monkey in your bag...
Handwork:
I only got one design in last week, did anybody else do one? I'd love to see what you've come up with. Here's the one I received, it's brilliant!
Janice and I are working on sending out handwork materials to you, in the meantime, send Janice and I your designs, we need to okay them before you start stitching. (janiceb@ch.steiner.school.nz and staceym@ch.steiner.school.nz). In order for us to send materials, we need to get you to choose a colour felt and three colours of thread. Have a look at Maddy's class' finished project and let me know what colours you'd like. If I don't hear, you'll get a lucky dip!
While you are waiting for materials, you could try the handwork project Janice made for you, it's in the pages and called "A handwork project for home - from Janice"
If you have any needles, thread and felt or other material laying around you could start practicing stitches.
Your classmates got creative for ANZAC day, look at what they have sent me. Great work Class 5!
Looking forward to hearing from you, I missed you over the long weekend!
